When a CNC lathe, mill or machining center goes down, every hour costs money. MJK Electric troubleshoots the electrical side of machine tools: incoming power, disconnects and protection, control voltage, safety circuits, drive power, grounding and wiring. Our 24/7 emergency service covers machine shops and manufacturers across the Phoenix metro.
Problems We Troubleshoot
- Machine won't power up, or shuts down at random
- Main breaker or fuses tripping or blowing
- Spindle drive or servo/axis drive faults, especially ones that follow load or heat
- VFD faults on spindles, pumps and conveyors
- E-stop circuit, door interlock and safety relay problems that won't let the machine reset
- Low-voltage, phase-loss or phase-imbalance alarms
- Failed contactors, relays, overloads and control transformers
- Erratic behavior from electrical noise or poor grounding
- Machines that fault in summer but run fine in winter
We work on CNC and manual machine tools alike: lathes, mills, machining centers, grinders, saws and the motors and controls that run them.
How We Troubleshoot
We start at the source and work toward the machine, because many "machine problems" are actually supply problems.
- Incoming power. Voltage on each phase, imbalance between phases, phase loss and phase rotation, measured at the machine's disconnect and under load.
- Protection and disconnects. Breakers, fuses, disconnect switches and terminations, including loose or heat-damaged connections.
- Control power. Control transformers, control voltage and the fuses that protect them.
- Safety circuits. E-stop chains, door interlocks and safety relays, traced device by device.
- Drive and motor power. Input power to spindle and servo drives, contactors, motor leads and insulation.
- Grounding, bonding and noise. Ground paths, shield terminations and wiring routes that let noise into control and encoder circuits.
Where Our Work Ends
We're electricians, not the machine builder's service department. We troubleshoot and repair power, wiring and electrical components. If the problem turns out to be in control software, parameters or the mechanical side, we'll say so clearly and work alongside your OEM or dealer technician so you aren't paying two people to guess.
Fix the Cause, Not Just the Symptom
If a machine keeps faulting because the building can't supply it properly, the lasting fix is in the power system: a dedicated circuit, a correctly sized transformer, surge protection, better grounding or more panel capacity. We'll recommend it when it's warranted, and we handle that work too. See CNC, lathe and mill installation and industrial electrical.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer emergency service for down machines?
Yes. We answer emergency calls 24/7. Call 602-930-7277 and tell us the machine, the alarm or symptom, and what changed before it went down.
Can you clear alarm codes or change machine parameters?
No. Parameters and control software belong to the machine builder and dealer. We use alarm codes as clues, then diagnose and repair the electrical fault behind them.
How do I know if it's the machine or the building's power?
We test both. Measuring the supply at the machine's disconnect under load quickly shows whether the power is the problem, and it's the first thing we check.
Do you work on manual lathes and mills too?
Yes. Motors, starters, switches, wiring and power supply problems on conventional machine tools are part of the same work.
